This is one of the most common questions that Mr Alan Park gets asked during his Leamington breast augmentation consultations. And the first response is usually that every patient differs and it’s never possible to give a definitive answer.
Breast implant placement affects recovery
A breast implant can either be placed or under or over the breast muscle and sometimes, this implant placement is combined. The decision on where the implant is to be placed will have been decided at the consultation and will be a result of Warwickshire breast augmentation expert Mr Alan Park listening very carefully to what you are hoping to achieve from the procedure and also from a comprehensive physical assessment.
Implants that are placed under the muscle usually take slightly longer than implants positioned over the muscle and there is certainly more discomfort.
Breast implant recovery in the first week
In the first few days after your breast augmentation procedures you will commonly experience pain and see a lot of swelling in the breast area. However, the majority of Mr Alan Park‘s patients find that they can manage the discomfort with over-the-counter painkillers. The pain and swelling start to subside after the first few days. Risk of infection or bleeding is highest in the first week or two.
Breast implant recovery in the second week
Mr Alan Park encourages his Leamington breast augmentation patients to be fully mobile in the second week and start implant massage if appropriate. Most of the swelling should have disappeared and there will be little or no pain. You may become aware of numbness at this point but this should be temporary and there may be a sensation of pins and needles as the nerves recover.
Breast implant recovery in the first month
After the first couple of weeks you should be able to resume all normal activities and light exercise, avoiding upper body resistance work. The nature of your job will determine when you can return to full duties, but Mr Alan Park will advise you.
Breast implant recovery in the first year
During the first year your breast implants will soften and settle into the correct position. The scar will flatten and fade and should be at its optimal appearance by the end of the first year.
