How should I choose my rhinoplasty surgeon?

The same criteria applies when you’re researching a plastic surgeon for an elective aesthetic procedure, but for no procedure is it so imperative that you undertake the proper research than for rhinoplasty.

Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a nose job, is one of the world’s oldest cosmetic surgery procedures with evidence dating back for thousands of years. However, it is also the most technically demanding plastic surgery operation. Milton Keynes-based plastic surgeon Mr Sudip Ghosh sees many patients requiring corrective work to rhinoplasty procedure performed with another surgeon.

Here is his advice on how best to choose your rhinoplasty surgeon:

Check out their qualifications

Your rhinoplasty surgeon should be on the General Medical Council’s specialist plastic surgery register. This means they have undergone six years of higher plastic surgery training and they are then eligible of holding a consultant level position in the NHS.

Mr Sudip Ghosh holds the position of a Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgeon at the Stoke Mandeville NHS Trust and he has been practicing plastic surgery since 1991.

Experience counts

There are a wide range of cosmetic surgery procedures pertaining to the face and body so it is imperative that you choose a surgeon that has the necessary experience so check how many rhinoplasty procedures they perform per year.

Although the cosmetic surgery procedures offered by the National Health Service have declined as it feels the strain of economic difficulties, rhinoplasty is still regularly performed as it can often be necessary after trauma, injury or disease, so a NHS surgeon will be gaining much experience.

The importance of the consultation

The Buckinghamshire rhinoplasty consultation is crucial as that’s your opportunity to ask all the relevant questions of your surgeon. It is important that they can demonstrate understanding of both the aesthetic and functional aspects of nasal surgery as these are both important when planning a rhinoplasty.

This is also your opportunity to look at their before and after pictures and discuss your expectations in-depth. If you feel that they are not fully comprehending what you’re hoping to achieve then it is best to step away.
